Coach Travel Vs Air Travel…
The Big Showdown!
If you’re planning your ski holiday for this Winter, you may have fallen into the trap of thinking that you have to fly. If you’re going to North America, then of course that will be the case, but if you’re going to Europe then don’t overlook coach travel.
We’ve put together a quick guide why we think coach travel is, at least, worth considering…
PRICE
Coach travel is actually a lot cheaper than travelling by air – generally. By comparison, some of our coach departures are up to £400pp cheaper compared with the same package by air. There will of course always be last minute deals by air, but if you don’t like taking the gamble and want to book early, travelling by coach is definitely the best option.
WINNER: COACH TRAVEL
JOURNEY TIME
If you look at the journey alone, then air travel wins with ease. However, if you add the other aspects into the equation, the difference is not as great as you might think. For example, you have the journey time to the airport, you need to check-in at least two hours before departure and then there is baggage reclaim and resort transfers at the far end. Added together, this can add a significant amount of time to what is otherwise a quicker journey.

BEST FOR SOLO TRAVELLERS
If you’re travelling by yourself, you can do things st speed! Getting through an airport should be easy peasy, so going by coach won’t really offer you any great benefits… unless of course you want to take your time, kick back and relax.
WINNER: AIR TRAVEL
BEST FOR COUPLES, FAMILIES AND GROUPS
Anyone who’s travelled by air with younger children will tell you immediately how daunting it can be – navigating the airport whilst keeping everyone together, along with passports, boarding passes and hand luggage – a nightmare. Coach travel alleviates all of this as you simply jump on at point A and get off when you arrive. It’s much easier to get everyone settled and relaxed.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT / GREEN CREDENTIALS
Although quick, air travel has much more of an impact on the environment than coach travel. Consider this… a coach takes up the space of 3 cars, yet can remove up to 20 from the road, reducing congestion and emissions, and a coach generates only a 6th of the carbon dioxide that air travel produces.

LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE (AND COST)
Depending on your airline, the days of inclusive hold luggage and a generous weight allowance are unfortunately consigned to history. This is a problem for a ski holiday as you need to take a lot of kit with you, so restrictions over size and weight will have an effect on you. Coach travel, however, allows you the extra freedom and peace of mind you need when packing your bags – including no additional cost for your own ski equipment!

STRESS LEVELS
Finding a parking space, lengthy check-in queues, navigating security and delays… to name but a few highly stressful factors involved with air travel. With coach travel, once you’ve boarded you can just sit back and relax, enjoying someone else taking the wheel while you take in the scenery.

COMFORT
The issue of comfort is less clear to define. Short-haul aircraft tend to have little room, but you’re only on-board for a short amount of time. Coach travel with Interski uses vehicles with fewer seats, so there is more room, but you are on board for a longer period.

OVERALL WINNER: COACH TRAVEL
In our view, coach travel is the best option for your ski holiday… but, we admit we are maybe a little bit biased! Generally speaking, coach travel is cost-effective and removes many of the stresses associated with air travel. It’s not without fault as you can still be affected by congestion and the journey time is longer. But, if you enjoy taking in the scenery and want to save some money, this could be the option for you – and your family or group.
