Ski Holidays by Coach

June 16, 2017
As a ski enthusiast, the annual ski holiday is often the goal that most of us focus on throughout the year and most certainly keeps us going through the winter. It’s what we dream about on tiring, stressful days at work and getting away is one of the top ranking subjects on social media. We all do the countdowns until we arrive at our dream destination… ‘it’s only 365 days’, ‘it’s only 4 weeks’, ‘just a fortnight to go’ etc. It’s all about the feeling when the clock strikes 5 on your last day at work and you get to turn on the ‘gone skiing!’ out of office reply on your emails.
In our excitement to get away, what we perhaps overlook is the ‘get to’ part of the trip. Unless you’ve got access to a luxury private jet, you’ll probably consider travel as a means to an end – nothing more than a necessary evil. Until teleportation is successfully developed, travel is a part of the holiday process that we can’t avoid. You know that without spending an extra fortune, there’s not a lot you can do to improve the experience. Or is there?…
Is Flying Everything It’s Cracked Up To Be?
If you’re anything like me, you’ll detest the whole airport experience… arriving at least 2hrs before departure, expensive parking, long queues at check-in, even longer queues at security, security itself, pricey food and drink outlets which never have enough seats, walking miles to the departure gate, delays, airlines charging extra for everything they can get away with, no room for your luggage in the overhead locker… the list is endless. By the time you actually get on the plane you feel worn out! Not the best way to start your holiday.
Is There A More Stress-Free Way To Travel?
Whilst flying is certainly the most popular way for people to travel abroad nowadays, depending on where you’re headed, there are some very real alternatives worth considering. If you’re off to the Alps or the Pyrenees, why not consider travelling by coach or self-drive?
Travelling to Europe on a Coach Sounds Long and Uncomfortable…
You might think so, but compared to flying, if you take into account the time it takes to drive to the airport, the time you have to arrive at the airport prior to the flight, the time the flight takes, the time it takes to reclaim your luggage and the time the transfers take at the other end, it’s significant. Agreed, it’s quicker than driving, but it’s often very stressful and the time difference probably isn’t as great as it first seems.
By contrast, did you know, it takes only 11 hrs to reach the Italian Alps from Calais? That’s not much longer than the time it takes door-to-door when travelling by air. But, it’s far more relaxing… you put your luggage in the hold at your pick-up, board the coach and then sit back and relax whilst taking in the scenery and enjoying having someone else do the driving. You’ve got time to read a book, watch a film or box-set on your tablet, catch up on some work, enjoy the scenery, chat with your friends and family or listen to some music.
Why Should I Try Coach Travel?
If you dread the airport experience, have never travelled on your ski holiday by coach before or are just looking for a new experience, we suggest now is a great time to try! Here are just a few reasons to give it a go:
- Coach travel is cheaper than travelling by air, and you can save up to £250pp (yes, per person!) on your ski holiday by comparison with air travel.
- It’s green – coach travel is the most environmentally friendly way to travel (see below).
- Travelling by coach is virtually stress free – no busy airport check-in and security to contend with!
- Modern coaches are comfortable and spacious with extra leg room, reclining seats and climate control.
- Coach travel is safe.
- Booking your ski holiday is easier as you’re only dealing with one company – you don’t need to book your flights and holiday separately.
- It’s social – travel with friends and family and spend the journey chatting away!
- Coaches arrive at your exact destination, not the nearest airport or train station.
- Take in the sights. Enjoy someone else being at the wheel and soak up the views of the countryside.
The Environmentally Friendly Option
Did you know…
- The average number of people carried in a car is 1.58?
- The average number of people carried in a coach is 32?
- One coach takes up the space of just three cars yet removes 20 cars from the road, reducing congestion?
- A coach generates a sixth of the carbon dioxide of air travel?
- A coach generates half the carbon dioxide of rail travel?
- A coach generates a quarter of the carbon dioxide of car travel?
